Many patients choose cosmetic gingival grafting to help several different gum tissue irregularities including receding gum tissue, or an uneven gum line. Receding gums can shrink back and begin to create a variety of issues, including increased sensitivity, mobility, and early decay. Grafting helps to cover the overexposed root and prevent bacteria from building. Uneven gum lines can be predictably recontoured to fit the desired aesthetic for the patient.

All gingival grafting procedures are done on an outpatient basis using local anesthetics. The procedure requires small incisions and delicate sutures. Your periodontist will see you for follow up a week to 2 weeks following your graft. You may experience some slight pain or swelling in the area after surgery. It is recommended that you follow a soft diet and avoid extensive exercise for at least a few days after surgery.
